Our Love Story

Bombay Beach - Salton Sea, California

The Middle of Nowhere

115 Degrees

I'd been to the Salton Sea many times. I've always loved walking down those abandoned streets. I love the eerie feeling that would wash over me when I stepped out into nowhere. The place is practically uninhabitable. The sea has killed off all of its fish, the summers are terribly hot.

8.9.17 Somehow, there were people just as crazy as me checking out the ruins that day. My friend and I walked into a building covered in trash and graffiti. Suddenly, the eerie feeling fled. What washed over me instead was a feeling of openness and kindness. We met three boys in that building who were doing the same as us that day, exploring the lesser known sights of SoCal. They were headed to Salvation Mountain & East Jesus then off to Joshua Tree. We exchanged small talk and laughed about crossing paths at our next stops. As soon as they drove away, I immediately knew I needed to cross their path again. I saw Trevor again in East Jesus a couple of hours later. The rest of the day and night we spent together talking about our pasts, futures, dreams and secrets. Those hours were the most intimate and pure I've ever experienced with another human.

I saw him again that weekend. We went to a concert on the base - Old Dominion. There could not have been a more perfect band to play. Two weeks after we met, I knew I wanted to be with him for the rest of our lives. Trevor and I listened to I Want Crazy by Hunter Hayes and cried because it was everything we were feeling and couldn't find the words to say. I remember sitting on a bench with him as we looked out at the water and talked about our future. That is my happy place, my heaven. Fast forward a bit to September 13th, at a Green Day concert. During the last song, as we sat in the grass, Trevor turned to me with this huge smile on his face and asked, "Will you marry me?!" I said YES! He picked me up and yelled, "We're getting married!" I'm sure no one around us gave a second glance, but it didn't matter because in that moment, we were the only ones there. We chose to keep the proposal to ourselves; we both felt it best for Trevor to ask for my hand in marriage and Trevor felt he needed to propose publicly with a ring (and I wasn't going to stop him). That night we also decided to start a family. Why wait when we had both been dreaming about it our entire lives? On October 11th, Trevor and I celebrated the news that we were expecting! Many happy tears were cried that day. Fast forward to November 24th, Trevor got down on one knee in front of the Magic Kingdom castle during the fireworks and asked me to make him the happiest man in the world. I said YES and he slipped that gorgeous ring we designed together on my finger.

I believe that destiny put Trevor and I in that abandoned building together on the hottest day of the summer. Many nights I prayed for the things I have now, but God said No because it wasn't the time. So many dreams have come true in the past year and I'm so glad they were with Trevor. I am in disbelief that I get to marry my soulmate in less than three weeks!

I love you, Sweetie
