Relaxing Labor and Delivery Playlist

02/26/2019

As my due date approached, I tried to envision what my labor and delivery experience would look like. What did I even WANT it to look like?

As I scrolled through playlist after playlist, I started to grasp the vibe I wanted to encompass my labor and delivery room. My basic playlist needed to consist of these two things:

  1. Songs that would remind me of the love I have for Trevor and the family we are creating
  2. Songs that overwhelm me with joy for my sweet baby

The last few weeks of pregnancy can be mentally taxing, but creating my playlist was fun. Pouring time into this really helped with the anticipation and anxiety of awaiting my labor. I discovered so many beautiful songs that have been added to my everyday playlist.

A few days before my due date, my water broke so Trevor and I got packed up and headed for the hospital. Things were off to a slow start while we waited for the Pitocin to jump start my contractions. We played games and watched a movie to pass the time. Once the pain kicked in, I crawled into bed and asked Trevor to turn on my playlist.

I couldn't even get through two songs and here's why.

  • The nurses kept coming in and out asking questions, poking and prodding me.
  • I needed to focus on the pain.

There was so much going on, all I really wanted to do was close my eyes, curl up, and focus in so I could calm myself and remember to breathe. Needless to say, I didn't use my playlist. But, maybe it will be of use to you! A few words of wisdom before our playlist. . .

Joshua Tree is practically in our backyard! Trevor and I have not properly explored Joshua Tree together. We spent some time at Key's View the very day we met. We drove into the park to take maternity pictures two weeks before Phoebe was born. The only day spent hiking together was when a couple of my friends came out....
